On a slightly different note, we had art today where we made some fabulous leprechauns and learned all about symmetry. We have an art teacher at our school, so I usually just drop the kids off and use the time to plan and prepare, but today I decided to stay and have some fun with the kids.
The art projects turned out adorably... and the conversation was hilarious too!
Kids always say such amusing things, but when this was said I knew I had to share :)
Not quite sure how it came up, but the conversation went something like this:
A: You know, you don't always have to marry the first person you date. In fact, you probably won't.
Z: Well the first person I date, I'll marry. But first, I gotta look at her ankles. Well actually her mother's ankles. My cousin told me that.
Dear 7 year old Z, I can't wait to see you in 30 years and meet this lovely wife and tell her how you go about choosing a potential date!
Much second grade love

SUCCESS!!
I can't believe I only have four left to do tomorrow- so exhausted, but happy. Well not entirely, we do have a raging blizzard outside...
Hope everyone had a fantastic (snow free) day!

Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse
In math right now, we are doing a unit on money.
We read the book Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes
We read the book Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse by Kevin Henkes
In the story, Lilly carries around three quarters. Each time I read about the quarters, I would pause and ask how much? And my kids would shout out 75 cents! (If they didn't know how much 3 quarters was worth before, they sure do now!)
When we finished the story, we made our own purple purses, or leather wallets because we do have some little men in the class who wouldn't go near the color purple, let alone a purse.
We folded a piece of construction paper in almost half, leaving about an inch or two at the top to fold over to make the top of the purse. The kids decorated their purses.
The math came in when they had to choose their own amount of money to put in. After putting their secret amount of coins in, they wrote the amount on the back of the purse.
Then I had them mix up and find a purse that wasn't their own. They had time to count out the coins before I would have them flip the purse to check if they were correct.
After our whole group activity, I stuck the purses in a center bucket where they could continue to practice.

About Me
Hi! My name is Stephanie and I teach second grade. I absolutely adore teaching- not only is it my job, but also my passion!
I am usually the one looking at other's blogs to get the cutest and best ideas to implement in my classroom, but I have been inspired to begin my own blog!
A little bit about me...

I am usually the one looking at other's blogs to get the cutest and best ideas to implement in my classroom, but I have been inspired to begin my own blog!
A little bit about me...
- This is my second year teaching. Last year I taught third, this year second grade.
- I only have 18 kids in my class. (What a blessing!)
- I teach at a Catholic School. I went to a public elementary school when I was younger, but it just feels so right to be at this school, I couldn't be happier.
- I love teaching all subjects, but I truly enjoy teaching math to my second graders.
- There are only two second grade teachers at my school, myself and Sam- he is the best team teacher, so helpful!
- I adore the people I work with.
- I graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor's of Science in Elementary Education.
- I worked at my current school as a reading aide while I was working on my degree. I taught the Words Their Way spelling program (which is amazing!)
- I am a huge believer in small groups, centers and games. (Not a fan of generic basal lessons)
- There are so many things I want to do in my class that I usually end up getting overwhelmed. (Story of every teacher's life?)
♥Stephanie
